compare and contrast chinese food and malay food

Food is any substance or material that provide nutrient and energy to body. Different cultures has different cuisines. There are similarities and differences between Chinese food and Malays food in terms of table manner, styles of cooking and traditional food.

First at all, there are similarities and differences between table manner of chinese and malays. table manner is the style and the ways of eating on table. Both Chinese and Malays take their food for breakfast, lunch and dinner on table. similarly, both chinese and malay apply the traditional practices in their style of eating. However, there is some differences between the style of eating. Chinese use eating utensils such as chopsticks or spoon and fork for taking their meals, whereas Malays take their meals by using fingers and keep eating utensils for the minimum. Thus, both have their similar and different characteristics of style of eating.

Besides of table manner, both chinese and malay food have their own styles of cooking. Variety is the spice in Chinese and Malays food. Likewise, the traditional culinary style has been greatly influenced in the both Chinese and Malays food from one generation to one generation. For instance, Chinese food is influenced from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, while Malays food is influnced from neighbouring counteries, such as Indonesia and the Middle East. Nevertheless, Malay food is often descibed as spicy and flavourful as it utilises a melting pot of spices and herbs. Malay cooking incorporates ingredients such as lemon glass, pandan leaves, kemangi leaves, turmeric and wild ginger buds. On the contrary, Chinese food is usually implies a lot of deep-fried, strong-flavored and greasy dishes that all taste similar. The ingredients used are Chinese herbs, ginger, mushrooms and others. Generally, both chinese and malay cooking styles are inherited from traditions, however, they are different in the preparation of food.

In addition to table manner and cooking styles, there are Chinese and Malays traditional food. Traditional food is common and special especially during the important festivals such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Puasa. Similarly, both prepare their traditional food during open house of their festivals. Both prepare the traditional food together with family members and sometimes with the neighbours. This symbolises the unity among them. However, the examples of Chinese food are tang yuan, dumplings, dim sumand mooncake, whereas Malay traditional food is rendang, nasi lemak, ketupat and others. It is undeniable that both chinese and malay traditional foods are prepared for open house, but the examples of both traditional foods are totally different.

In conclusion, there are the similarities and differences between Chinese food and Malay food in aspect of atmosphere of eating, cooking styles and traditional food. all of these make different cultures become unique and have their own identity.

Journal week 2: 28 July 2010

Today,we sat in groups and read the articles together. Miss anna said that we were more quiet compared to last semester. In our English class today, we played a interesting and fun game. We divided into two groups. The instruction of this game was given by miss anna and we pay 100% attention to miss anna's hand. My group would say "Heart" when miss anna pointed to my group, while another group would say "Petal" in their turn. A wonderful song was created when we said "Heart, heart, heart, petal, heart,petal..." Nice!! We should record it at that time.

HOW TO FIND YOUR LUCKY NUMBER
Posted on Monday, June 29th, 2009
By Dallas Commagreens

Your lucky number – which you can easily determine by your birth date – reveals a lot about you, says numerologist Gemma Franklin.
To find your lucky number, simply add up the digits in your birth date until they reach a number between 1 and 9, she explains. For example, Mick Jagger was born on 7/26/1943.

To figure his lucky number, add the digits 7+2+6+1+9+4+3, which total 32. Next add 3+2 – making his number 5.

Once you’ve figured out your own lucky number, check below to see what it tells you about your personality:

1: If this is your lucky number, you take the time to develop lasting relationships. You’re a leader and sometimes exhaust yourself doing too much – but you have marvelous powers of recovery. You’re most compatible with persons whose lucky number is 4 or 9.

2: You’re at peace with yourself and happy. You’re easily hurt and sensitive, and usually lucky when it comes to money. Your partner has to be romantic and affectionate. Compatible with numbers 7 and 9.

3: You’re an idealist who feels that friendship and companionship can be more important than a sexual relationship. You take yourself too seriously, and as a result you can miss out on some of the fun in life. You have excellent intuition. Compatible numbers are 5 and 6.

4: Despite your cool exterior, you’re really affectionate. You tend to be possessive and are apt to be a hoarder, but you have a habit of making unexpected generous gestures. Compatible numbers are 1 and 8.

5: You have a tremendous capacity for giving – you often give of your money and affection. You’re the first to fall for a hard luck story. You have an extraordinary sense of humor and are very friendly. Compatible numbers are 5 and 3.

6: There’s more than a hint of jealousy in your nature – but you have a good love life. You’re physically active and a real go-getter in life. Compatible numbers are 2 and 3.

7: You have loads of sympathy for others, but you rarely wear your heart on your sleeve. You’re very neat – “a place for everything in its place” is your motto. Compatible numbers are 4 and 6.

8. You like luxury and love having fun. You prefer your love life to be stable and are loyal to others – but you can be possessive and extremely stubborn when you feel you are right. Compatible numbers are 1 and 6.

9: Imaginative and conscientious, you love color and display. You let your head rule your heart when it comes to love, but you are a sensuous person once you let go. Compatible numbers are 1 and 9.

Blue

BLUE is calm sky,
bring peace and equanimity,
with your heart,
solve every thorn of your life.

BLUE ocean symbolises life,
sometimes calm sometimes stormy,
nothing will be eternal,
please always follow your heart.
Which color best suits your personality?

You Are Blue!
You are blue! You are a deep, sensitive dreamer. You are usually laid back and calm, though, like an ocean, you can kick up a good storm, too! You are probably a daydreamer, who has his/her head in the clouds. You love spending time with your friends, and probably just go with whatever they want to do (you're a go with the flow type of person, just like water!). You are emotionally inclined - unlike reds, who feel passionately and intensely, you feel things deeply and strongly. You are extremely loyal, and your friends can always count on you to be there for them. Blues are almost always very intelligent, and they strive for perfection in many areas. You may tend to beat yourself up for your imperfections. Other people admire you and strive to be like you, but you probably have a hard time understanding why. You can be light and fun at times, and other times deep and introverted. It just depends on your mood. Sometimes you throw people off with your random changes in disposition, but your friends love you anyways. You can be a very wise, intellectual person, but you have to pull yourself up out of your own thoughts first! You, in a nutshell: Deep, emotional, wise, loyal, slightly moody, feeling, sensitive, supportive, intelligent. BLUE!
